Abstract
Dysmenorrhea is the most common menstrual pain complaint experienced by adolescent girls worldwide, with a global prevalence of 50–90% in 2022 and around 60–70% in Indonesia in 2021. Data from Medan even recorded that 85.9% of adolescent girls aged 15–17 years experienced menstrual pain that interfered with their learning activities. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of providing warm compresses on reducing menstrual pain in adolescent girls at Sinar Husni High School 2026. This research method used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test post-test design, conducted in January–July 2026 with a sample of 15 respondents. Before the intervention, pain measurements were taken (pre-test), then warm compresses were given using a jar filled with water at a temperature of 38–40°C for 15–20 minutes, and after that, measurements were taken again (post-test). The data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test which showed a non-normal distribution, so bivariate analysis was continued using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of a study of 15 female adolescent respondents at Sinar Husni High School in Medan showed that before the warm water compress intervention, the majority experienced moderate pain, while after the intervention, the majority experienced mild pain. The Wilcoxon test showed that 13 respondents experienced a decrease in pain category with a significance value of 0.001, thus warm water compresses were proven effective in reducing the intensity of menstrual pain. The conclusion of this study is that warm water compresses have been proven to be effective in reducing the intensity of dysmenorrhea. It is recommended that female adolescents utilize warm water compresses as one way to reduce menstrual pain.
